Jon on Clement Bass #69

Hi!!!

I've collected the Tundra bass, and I have just managed to put her down beside me for a couple of minutes to send you an overview of my initial reactions! :-) First of all, I was a little terrified when I saw the box, as it was completely battered! So I was a little anxious when I got home to see that everything was ok. And it was, thanks to all the bubble wrap you had stuffed inside the box! The bass was completely unharmed. :-)

Let me just say this: She's a real natural beauty, Tom!! The shape, the feeling, the looks... it's just one of the most beautiful basses I've ever held in my hands! I was surprised about the size of it, it was even smaller than I had imagined, but with perfect balance, great to play both sitting and standing on a strap! It's such an elegant creature! And for a piccolo bass, the size and shape is great!! My wife commented on it the moment she saw it, too. Gorgeous! The shape is so harmonic and well-balanced!  It's one of those basses that people will notice the moment they see it. It will attract a lot of attention!!!

I noticed the scars you mentioned, but honestly, Tom!! That's nothing to worry about at all! They are hardly noticeable, they're in the back, and most basses have best buckle marks bigger than this! If anything, they just add character!  Just like the birthmark on Cindy Crawford’s upper lip.

The neck... so smooth and with amazingly low action, it's a dream to play! It almost plays itself! The fingerboard is beautiful, and hard, and lovely... The color is so nice against the swamp ash... I'm sure you can feel my excitment??!!

But the single most impressive and amazing thing about this bass is the sound!!!! She sings, Tom!! The other fretless is a great bass, and I paid almost three times as much for it, but to be honest... The Tundra bass owns it!!!

From what you said about her earlier, I had high expectations about the sound, but it was even better than that! It's exactly what I'm looking for in a fretless, and then some! I'm not sure if I can make myself into converting her into a piccolo, she's just so great-sounding as an "ordinary" fretless bass!!! I'll write more later, Tom... but I just have to leave the keyboard to play the Tundra again!!!

With extremely satisfied and ultra-enthusiastic regards,
the proud Tundra owner Jon!
